Following an earthquake, remain calm and try to restore calm among your colleagues and co-workers.

  • Report injuries to 911 and rescue personnel.
  • Report any trapped personnel or anyone reluctant to leave the facility to rescue personnel.
  • Report building, plumbing, electrical or other damage to rescue personnel.
  • Watch for falling objects and other hazards.
  • Evacuate carefully and be alert for aftershocks.
    • Assist others as feasible and no rescue personnel are present.
    • Pay close attention to those who may need assistance, especially the elderly, those with access and functional needs, and children.
  • Once outside move at least 500 feet away from any structure while keeping the streets and fire lanes clear. Stay clear of hydrants and elevated walkways.
    • If outdoors, stay away from buildings, utility poles, and other structures. Be alert to downed power lines.
  • If in an automobile, stop as soon as possible in an open area away from buildings, power lines and trees. Remain in your vehicle for shelter.
  • Await instructions, be patient, help others.
